Cindy Lou Who

Do you remember this “darling?”

Or maybe she’s more familiar here …

Dr. Seuss’  classic book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," was written in 1953. In 1999, this timeless story was produced in a live action feature film.  Cindy Lou Who, a member of the Who family, is young, innocent, and willing to take a chance on the hard-hearted Grinch. Virtually the only member of Whoville with the Christmas spirit intact, Cindy Lou plays a key role in bringing the true meaning of Christmas back to the town.

But in our Wonderful World of Quilting, “Cindy Lou Who” has a sweetness all her own.  Introducing our 2nd project in “A Year of Schnibbles” ….

 
Several have asked what exactly a “Schnibble” is.  So I headed over to Carrie’s website to see if I might gain a more clear definition.  Here’s what Carrie says:

Schnibble: noun  A scrap of fabric; a leftover bit of cloth; a small piece.  The word has a German origin and is found primarily in German settlements in the Midwest.

Wow!  Who knew!

For our purposes, though, “Schnibbles” is a collection of patterns designed by Carrie of Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co. that are made exclusively with 5” charms plus a little extra yardage.  “A Year of Schnibbles” is a free club that was started by Sinta at Pink Pincushion and Sherri at A Quilting Life.  Anyone can join.  It’s all in fun.  Each month a new Schnibbles pattern is chosen and participants have one month to complete the top.  On the first day of each month Sinta & Sherri “parade” our Schnibbles and introduce the next months project.  You can do one or you can do all 12. 

Miss Carrie is totally in on it too.  September’s Schnibble was “Winter White”.  Carrie not only participated, but changed things up a bit and made “Winter Nights.”  She has the directions for this altered pattern on her blog."

Winter White – A Year of Schnibbles #1

I wasn’t going to do this. 

Really, I wasn’t. 

Something about time or the lack thereof. 


But then I got to thinking …

“I spend a lot of time at soccer practices and games.  It’s ON-LY 34” square.  Why not hand piece it?  It shouldn’t take that long.”  So self convinced me that it was doable.  I picked Aviary by 3 Sisters and added one of the the specialty fabrics from Simplicity for the white.  I hand-pieced all the flying geese.  Then, because of time, I machine-pieced it all together. 

Do I dare try quilting it myself? 
I think I might ….
But not today.
No time.

There’s no doubt about it … French General’s “Rouenneries” is our “Fabric-of-the-Year” here at The Quilt Shoppe.  So it goes without saying that as soon as we heard about Anne Sutton’s new Block-of-the-Month we were jumping up and down with glee!

“Le Jardin .. A French Garden Quilt” is stitched exclusively with Rouenneries fabrics.  And if the sneak peak above makes you drool with happiness, just wait and see the rest of the quilt. 

We do know that the finished quilt is apx. 59” x 65” and right now we’re scheduling to ship block one late November/early December.

We’ll have more details soon and will post an update as soon as everything is finalized.
