Bingo – A Brief Pause

Good morning and Happy Memorial Day!

We love computers, don’t we?  But only when they actually work!

Last Friday we came in and found that our computer system was being quite naughty.  We have laptops and desk computers, printers, and even a server, but without this little, itty, bitty box, none of it works.

When the lights are all on, this little machine makes everything work beautiful.  When the lights are out?  Nothing.  Nada.  Friday morning … Nothing.  Nada.  No lights.

A quick phone call to our computer tech guy confirmed it.  Mr. Linksys had passed on.  “No problem, we have another one at the office.”  By the time he stopped at a few other locations, got to the office and returned back to ours, it was past 5.

Saturday morning all seemed to be working well, until our internet service provider called and said something was amiss with our IP address.  Apparently our address was crossed with another company causing their service to go out.  So until we could get our computer tech guy back out to fix our address, they were shutting off our little black box.

So Mr. Techie should be back sometime today to hopefully get it all fixed (I’m “borrowing” an internet connection to post this.)

In the meantime, Bingo needs to take a holiday as I have no way to get to all of our files to pick the words or the winners (all that information is sitting on the server.)

Hopefully we’ll be back tomorrow with Day Five!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day!

Those little boxes sure can cause some big problems.

Hope you have been able to relax a bit this weekend even with all the computer troubles.

I can sympathize with you about the frustrations of these wonderful and amazing things we've all learned to depend upon for so many things. Hubby is an IT guy himself by profession and he's still entirely frustrated by my desktop which went to the great beyond last November. Thankfully just two days prior to that desktop dying, we scored a great price on two Dell Studio laptops. Had it not been for that I'd still be sitting here pulling my hair out.

Good luck and hopefully all will be smooth sailing once guru guy returns tomorrow.

Whenever our servers at work are on the fritz and I ask our techie why it does that, he says "Because its a computer". Not very helpful but usually explains everything! Hope you get "patched" up very quickly :)

Wow I hate when that happens, so sorry for all the problems. Will look forward to tomorrow for new words.

Just makes you realize how much we now depend on technology in our every day life. Think I'll go do some hand stitching for a while!!

Sorry you are having problems. We've had a couple of Mr. Linksys die a fast and unexpected death too. Sure wish they'd give a bit of a warning. But sounds like you'll be back online soon. In the meantime, I hope you have a much needed time to relax and enjoy!

Murphy's law! Technology has it's way of keeping us humble, doesn't it? Well, quilters are a patient bunch (except when it comes to waiting for our fabric in the mail!!) so work on getting your computer problem fixed and rest assured we will be looking forward to the next stage of the game!

What a pain for you! We are patient, so don't worry about us. Funny how we can't live without computers now that we have them.

Karen said...

Totally understandable. I don't know of a single computer owner who hasn't had problems. I love my computer but really hate it when it isn't being "good".
