South Hampton

southhamptonhangtag

We are super excited to show you one of our recent additions here at The Quilt Shoppe … South Hampton by Franchelle Contreras for Henry Glass.

Franchelle is our special blog guest today, here to tell us a bit about herself, her work in the fabric industry, and her inspiration for South Hampton.

Franchelle, how did you get started in the fabric industry?
I became involved with the fabric industry while exhibiting at the Surtex Show in New York.  I have been involved with Art Licensing for nine years and it has always been my desire to cross over to the fabric side of licensing, which happened in 2007.  Karen, the Art Director for Henry Glass & Co. stopped by my Surtex booth to review my artwork.  While in New York, Karen invited me and my husband to visit the Henry Glass offices and meet the Henry Glass family.  Everyone there was so warm and friendly.  From the family to all the staff, they welcomed both of us with open arms.  By the time we returned to our hotel, the licensing agreement was waiting for me to review.  It was and has been a very exciting time for me, since crossing over to create artwork for the fabric industry has been my goal from the very beginning.

What was your inspiration for the “South Hampton” fabric collection?
The inspiration for my first fabric collection came from my love of both contemporary and traditional artwork.  I am also a collector of all things antique and vintage, so I guess you can say “South Hampton” is all the above rolled into one.  If you look at the patterns in the South Hampton fabric collection you will notice the patterns are contemporary with a traditional/vintage twist.  I’ve also started taking photographs of flowers to use as inspiration for my artwork as well

Will we see a second fabric collection for Henry Glass & Co.?
I am so glad you asked … Yes! Debuting at Spring Quilt Market in May is my second collection,“Sonoma.”  It depicts the rich colors of Sonoma County in California … a contemporary yet vintage collection in greens, wines and soft yellows.

Stop by and visit Franchelle’s blog … http://www.franchellecontreras.blogspot.com/ … to see the many exciting ways crafters are using these wonderful new fabrics.

We have all the fabrics in the collection as well as kits for the free pattern available from Henry Glass.

Love the guest blogger post. I thought it was great to see that the fabric company was so warm and welcoming in the way they approached the possible deal with Fr. In this day of corporate stress and anxiety it's nice to hear about a company that really cares. Plus, the fabric is awesome!!!
